Battlefield 3: Three new expansion packs announced

In June, take the battle indoors with our new themed expansion pack Battlefield 3: Close Quarters! This will be followed by all-out vehicle warfare in Battlefield 3: Armored Kill, featuring the biggest map in Battlefield history. Read on for the very first details about these upcoming expansion packs and more.

We are happy to announce the first details on our June expansion pack Battlefield 3: Close Quarters. As the battlefield moves indoors, we will drop you into frantic and relentless infantry combat where the tight level design and vertical gameplay creates a highly competitive environment.

By introducing high definition destruction, everything from furniture to plaster can be shot to pieces, and rubble and broken pieces will pile up on the floor as the battle rages on. Like all of our themed expansion packs, this is much more than just new maps, as we also include new weapons, Assignments, and dog tags to bring back to the base game — much in the same way as we did for Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand.

But we’re not stopping there. This fall will see some truly epic all-out vehicle warfare in our third expansion pack, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill. Featuring new drivable tanks, ATV’s, mobile artillery, and more — and to top it off, the biggest map in Battlefield history.

We also have a fourth expansion pack lined up for you: Battlefield 3: End Game, but details about that one remain tightly guarded for now. In addition to these three expansion packs and our upcoming Spring update, we will also add a much requested feature: a fully integrated rent-a-server program for console players. We will detail this program fully later, closer to launch.

Battlefield 3 preorder perks confirmed

Electronic Arts is positioning DICE's Battlefield franchise at the forefront of its first-person shooter army, and as such, it will be heavily promoting the release of Battlefield 3 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this fall. Preorder perks, of course, will be party to that campaign, and the publisher today confirmed rumors that emerged earlier this month that signaled the arrival of the Battlefield 3 Limited Edition.

As was the case for EA's latest Medal of Honor installment, the Battlefield 3 Limited Edition carries a standard edition price tag of $59.99 on all three platforms. Those who preorder the Limited Edition will gain free access to the Back to Karkand map pack. EA did not indicate whether the Back to Karkand pack will be available to those who do not prepurchase Battlefield 3 and had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

Highlighting the Back to Karkand map pack are four playfields from Battlefield 2 that have been updated with DICE's new Frostbite 2 engine. Unfortunately, EA did not indicate which classic Battlefield 2 maps would be included in the pack. Gamers will also find an assortment of Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles, as well as "unique rewards" and achievements/trophies.

http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6300413.html?tag=latestheadlines%3Btitle%3B6
[Submitted by A1EXE]

Battlefield 3 Gameplay Trailer Analysis

Arabic Setting
The most obvious reveal is that the whole trailer is set within a dusty Arabic location. Not surprising considering Battlefield 2â??s heavy focus on Middle East levels though. This is shown mid-way through, where Arabic letting is seen on one of the doors.

Interaction With Environment
Your character will visually interact with the environment around them, as seen at the start of the trailer when the character lifts his hand to steady himself against the roof of the transport as he exits. Lessons from Mirrorâ??s Edge have made their way in here, it seems.

â??Uncanny valley, here we come.â?

It Looks Outstanding
It might be a churlish point to make, but it's rare that a game looks so good we have to watch its trailer several times just to be certain weâ??re not seeing things. The monochrome glare after leaving the transport, the fast-paced sprint down a detailed alleyway; everything has a very high-quality graphical edge.

Character Animations Are Photo-Realistic
Watch as the character sprints alongside his allies or when a team-mate is shot and drops to the ground; itâ??s difficult to tell yourself itâ??s not real. This is the most realistic in-game animation weâ??ve seen for a long time: uncanny valley, here we come.

Squad-Based Gameplay
Sticking together in a squad has always been important in Battlefield 3, and the same is true here. Teaming up to batter through a door or drag your wounded ally to safety are just a couple of examples shown in the trailer. And, obviously, all provided through that very impressive visual sheen.

Best Particle Effects, Ever
Did you notice those sparks on the roof of the interior section? Or the flicker of flames in a barrel? How about the dust billow off the team-mate who gets shot? No, of course you didnâ??t. Because the best particle effects are the ones you never notice, making Battlefield 3 look ever more realistic.

Different Levels Of Destruction
Towards the end of the trailer youâ??ll notice a section on top of the rooftop. The tower block opposite begins to collapse before the trailer ends, however, the interesting feature is how parts of the concrete wall chip away under bullet fire. Yes, this has been done before, but never with such uncanny effects.

The Trailer Is Non Format Specific
Thereâ??s no suggestions in the trailer about what format this video is playing on. While sources tell us it will be looking just as gorgeous on Xbox 360 and PS3, itâ??s more likely that it was all played from a very high-end PC.

Character Will Be Kidnapped
If you're paying close attention to the end of the video you'll notice a section where an attacker punches the character in the face, suggesting a section where you might be kidnapped and taken as hostage. It wouldn't be the first time.

Battlefield 2 Maps Available
At the end you'll see the message about pre-orders, earning yourself the map 'Back To Karkand' if you do. As Battlefield 2 fans will know, Karkand is one of the most popular maps around, and one NowGamer looks forward to revisiting in Battlefield 3.
[Submitted by BullZeye]

Battlefield Play4Free revealed
